‘Introducing the Violin/Fiddle, Viola and Cello
Guidelines for the Curious!’
Join Dr Benjamin Errington for a relaxed, hands-on session for complete beginners, curious listeners, parents considering lessons for children, and anyone interested in learning more about the string family.
We will consider:
– Where to begin when learning a stringed instrument
– The differences between violin, viola and cello
– Traditional or classical music – where to start?
– Is it too late to begin learning?
– What playing opportunities are available?
The session would also include short demonstrations and the opportunity for attendees to try violins and violas of various sizes in an informal and welcoming setting.
Questions from participants would be encouraged throughout..

‘Would you like to find out more about Traditional Piano Accompaniment?’
Join Cathal Culliney as he guides you around traditional Irish piano accompaniment. He has received numerous awards and medals at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann throughout the years, most recently winning the All-Ireland Accompaniment competition 2025. Cathal has played all over Ireland for many years, with most recent highlights being the Fleadh Cheoil and Maynooth University.

‘How to Practice Effectively with Tamara’
Tamara’s name will be recognized by many budding pianists, as her delightful compositions, are a regular feature in the RIAM exam repertoire. After adjudicating our Festival Competition Classes, in the afternoon, Tamara will shares the secret to effective practice, taking pieces and detailing the approach to take in bringing the piece from the unknown to performance level..
Songwriting with Emily Doyle
Learn the basics of songwriting with Emily Doyle, folk singer, songwriter and musician.
Equipping you with the tools it takes to make great songs and how to get the most out of your ideas, touching on areas such as; song structure, melody, lyrics, composition and also how to get the most out of your voice.
Whether you’re a total newbie, aspiring songwriter or somebody who wants to take their songwriting to the next level this workshop will talk you through how to bring your creative ideas to life.

Workshop Facilitators
Tamara Niekludow is a multi-award-winning concert pianist, piano lecturer, and examiner at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, as well as a competition adjudicator, conductor, and composer based in Dublin, Ireland.
Dr. Benjamin Errington has studied at several of the world’s most musical prestigious institutions including Chetham’s School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK and the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He earned a PhD in Musical Aesthetics from Trinity College Dublin.
Cathal Culliney is a fiddle and piano player who hails from the ancient Conmhaícne region, a historically vibrant region of Irish music which encompasses South Leitrim and County Longford. Cathal has been passionate about Irish traditional music from a young age and has recently completed a masters in Irish traditional music in Maynooth University. His research examines how the piano has developed a collaborative role in traditional music.
Since the release of her debut single, “St Giles”, in early 2025, Longford’s Emily Doyle, has quickly established herself as one of Ireland’s exciting emerging folk singer-songwriters. She has performed across the country in some of Ireland’s most renowned venues, including a standout performance at Electric Picnic 2025. Most recently Emily has has released her debut EP, “Fight Or Flight”, a deeply personal collection of songs that blend heartfelt lyricism with soaring, unforgettable melodies. This EP explores themes of vulnerability, heartbreak, growth and resilience, inviting listeners on an emotional journey rooted in stripped-back honesty and moments of raw unfiltered storytelling.
